A 21-year-old man from Prospect is facing drink driving charges after crashing his car into the front yard of a home in Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs early yesterday morning.
The incident, which occurred just before 1am on Arthur Street, caused significant damage to the property, narrowly missing a water and gas meter before coming to a halt in the doorway of the neighbouring house.
Sisters Alicia and Lauren witnessed the chaos unfold.
“I heard crashing, a big bang,” Alicia said.
“I saw sirens when I opened my blind and everything … and then I saw firies, a car and then a man just walking and sitting on the floor.”
CCTV footage captured the car speeding down Arthur Street, which has a 40km/h speed limit, moments before the crash.
The driver, visibly shaken, emerged from the wreckage and walked away before returning to make a phone call.
“He was sitting, alive, talking … with the emergency department, while my mum just came out to help,” Alicia said.
The sisters expressed their shock and relief that no one was injured.
“I’m still panicking about it,” Lauren said.
“It’s just a miracle that everyone is okay, that everyone is alive and well,” Alicia added.
9News understands the driver returned to the home later that morning to apologise for the damage, expressing deep regret for his actions.
Police confirmed the man has been reported for drink driving.
